Hiking in Hong Kong

Discover a different side of Hong Kong on foot. Our featured hiking tours follow clifftop paths, geo‑trails, and quiet countryside tracks in and around the UNESCO Global Geopark, where the city slowly falls away behind you and opens into sweeping views of volcanic sea cliffs, turquoise reservoirs, fishing villages, and headlands shaped by hundreds of millions of years of Earth’s history.
Led by knowledgeable guides, you might trace the famous High Island Geo Trail to stand eye‑level with the world’s largest group of hexagonal volcanic rock columns, wander above sheer sea cliffs near Ung Kong or Bluff Island, or explore rural hamlets and temples that tell the cultural side of Hong Kong’s story alongside its dramatic geology.
Depending on the hiking route you choose, there is time to pause at lookouts, learn from interpretation panels, enjoy picnic breaks with sea views, or combine the walk with a short boat transfer, turning your day into a complete Hong Kong nature experience that blends accessible hiking, geology, and scenery rather than just a quick in‑and‑out viewpoint stop.

Are there any age, weight, or health restrictions for hiking?

Some hiking tours are suitable for all ages, while others have stricter age and health requirements—it depends on the route and terrain.

.

In general, easier geo‑trails and short walking tours (like Sharp Island or East Dam) have no minimum age and are suitable for all ages, as long as participants have no major mobility issues and can walk on uneven natural paths.

.

Harder hikes or shore‑based routes with rough, uneven terrain and rock sections (for example Devil’s Fist or some Flaming Red Coast style walks) are not recommended for elderly guests (around 75+) or people without any hiking experience, and are also unsuitable for those who are pregnant, have heart disease, poor general health, or serious joint injuries.

What day hiking tours are available?

Most of our Geopark hiking and walking tours run daily (every day) during the main operating season, unless stated otherwise on the specific tour page.

Popular day options include the Geopark Sharp Island Walking Tour (tombolo & tidal landscape), the Geopark East Dam Walking Tour (world‑class hexagonal rock columns and reservoir views), plus other themed Geopark hiking routes that combine geology, scenery, and village stories—each with its own fixed time slots shown on the booking calendar.
